Bananas are berries, which may hurt some egos. Berry-like because they form from a single ovary and have a core or “pips” with developing seeds.  

A rainbow of bananas awaits you beyond Chiquita and Cavendish. They range from sweet Blue Java to acidic Red Banana, and are generally violet. 

Humans have eaten bananas for millennia. They may have been domesticated in Papua New Guinea circa 8,000 BCE and spread to tropical places worldwide. Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics depict bananas!

And it’s not just a thing; it’s a national treasure. During World War II, when tomato ketchup was scarce, Filipinos made due and concocted a tangy, sweet “banana ketchup.” They were not monkeying around with this innovation.

Bananas include Earth's largest herbaceous flowering plant. The record-holding behemoth hails from Southeast Asian jungles and stands 30 feet tall.  

Most bananas float in water because to their low density, but they don't keep doctors away like apples. Play CCR's "Green River," add a banana, and you have a low-budget tropical city scene.  

With a little butter and some herbs, they're delicious or used to soak up gravies.
