The American Kennel Club, veterinarians, and groomers advise starting slowly and having plenty of treats for positive reinforcement if you've never trimmed your dog's nails.
Like any new routine, your dog will need time and lots of tempting treats to get used to having their nails clipped by you.
This approach involves multiple parts and may take days depending on your dog's reaction. Your beginning point shouldn't be clipped.
First, familiarize them with the clipping tool's appearance and sound. Simply show them the clipper and give them a treat to associate it with good things.
After they become used to the clipper, touch it to their paw and nails (don't clip anything) and give them a treat. Follow this process several times.
If all goes well, clip a tiny bit off one nail tip and praise and treat them again. Take it slow—experts recommend trimming one nail per day at this point.
Dietitians prefer kiwis in the fall, even though they look like tropical summer fruits for smoothies and cocktails. Kiwis are high in vitamin C, K, and fiber.
